2019 01 Victoria come and sing thumbnailCome-and-sing Victoria Requiem in Holy Apostles Church, Charlton Kings.

Have you ever wanted to sing with The Oriel Singers? Well, here is your chance!

Come and indulge yourself in the glorious Requiem by Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611). Victoria was a Spanish composer in 16th century Spain and part of the counter-reformation. His Requiem, written for six parts, is full of refined but passionate conviction: just wonderful Renaissance music to wrap yourself in.

Our come-and-sing day has two parts:

  • 10am-4pm we rehearse the Requiem under the fine direction of Ben Sawyer. Tea, coffee and good company are all provided.
  • 5pm a free concert for all comers, with home-made cake. Bring your family to hear what we have made of this great music.

Booking for this day is now open. To book, you must do two things:

  • Complete our online form with information about yourself and your choral experience.
  • Pay for the event via the PayPal link below. Altervatively, please send a cheque (payable to The Oriel Singers) to The Treasurer of The Oriel Singers, 20 Old Bath Road, Cheltenham GL53 7QD.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Come and Sing events are always more fun if you have some familiarity with the music.

Sheet music

Copies of the score are available for free online, from sites such as this. These free copies often contain errors, but they should be sufficiently good for initial practice or to follow along with a recording.

Practice files

To help your practice, we have put together recordings of each part of the Requiem, so that you can follow your line and get to know it. These files are available in our public Google Drive folder.

There are several recordings online. Here is one.
