7pm in St. Peter's Church, Llanwenarth near Abergavenny.
This summer concert is such a highlight of our calendar, for so many reasons: this lovely Welsh church in its sheep-filled valley has been a delightful Oriels venue for many years, over which time it has suffered structural issues, but after an incredible fund-raising effort it has now been re-roofed. It will be great to be back, both to the church and also to the wonderful welcome of the locals.
The core of our concert is the gorgeous Mass in E Flat Major by Josef Rheinberger, written for double choir in 1878. Rheinberger wrote this Mass at a time when he was rejecting conservative Catholic music-making and writing in a freer, more inventive way.
We intersperse the Mass with our own inventive mix of music: MacMillan, Panufnik, Britten and more. There are fun pieces for summer, profound reflective pieces, sacred and secular. Come and be surprised.
Tickets cost £14.00, which includes interval refreshments. These are available from church members or by phoning Pip Hassall 01873 857392. To be sure of getting a ticket, please book one in advance as space is limited.
Please take note of the early start time.
