The Good Morrow - a summer concert at 7.30pm in Malmesbury Abbey.
I wonder by my troth, what thou and I
Did, till we loved? were we not wean'd till then?
(The Good Morrow, John Donne, 1633)
This special evening has love at its heart and takes its name from John Donne’s famous poem. Our programme has as its backbone the beautiful Mass in E flat for Double Choir by Josef Rheinberger.
Around movements of the Mass we mix in pieces that evoke sentiments from the poem, including music by James Macmillan, Roxanna Panufnik, Britten’s Five Flower Songs and lighter arrangements for a summer's evening.
We are particularly pleased to be giving a world premiere of new work written especially for us by Alissa Firsova: a setting of the poem The Good Morrow itself.
Tickets cost £18, with a special price of £5 for students. They are available from the Malmesbury Abbey Music Society website.
Our draft programme for this evening is as follows:
Mass in E-flat Josef Rheinberger
O Radiant Dawn James Macmillan
Child of Heaven Roxanna Panufnik
The Good Morrow Alissa Firsova
A Good-Night Richard Rodney Bennett
Sing My Child Sarah Quartel
Et Nos Cedamus Tom Kane
The Gallant Weaver James Macmillan
Five Flower Songs Benjamin Britten
