O Antiphons, a free concert of music for Advent with coffee and cake! 11am in Holy Apostles Church, Charlton Kings.
We are delighted to be invited back by the excellent Corelli Concert series, whose regular free concerts are always a treat for everyone involved.
The O Antiphons are traditionally used at Vespers of the last seven days of Advent. We turn back the clock to the 16th Century for much of our programme, with glorious early music from less well-known composers such as Antoine De Mornable and Hotinet. We mix in several contemporary pieces, with compositions by Howard Skempton and Humphrey Clucas.
Doors open at 10:30am for coffee and home-made cake. The cake is always excellent, so do arrive early!
Our concert will last around 50 minutes. Admission is free with a retiring collection.
Our draft programme for this concert is as follows:
O Sapientia Robert Ramsay
Laetentur Coeli William Byrd
O Adonai Pierre Certon
Rorate Coeli Humphrey Clucas
Adam Lay Ybounden Howard Skempton
O Clavis David Antoine de Mornable
